Coastal makes a splash in Parkstone - July 2008
Coastal Credit Union is re-launching it's Service Point at the Co-op in Ashley Road, Poole on Saturday 5th July from 11am - 1pm. Fairtrade refreshments will be provided, courtesy of the Co-op. Children are invited to bring a money box they have made out of recycled materials, as part of a competition with Prizes. Representatives of the Co-op, Poole Housing Partnership (PHP) and the Credit Union will be there to talk about our work together.
The Credit Union is a Savings and Loans co-operative, owned and run by it's members and regulated by the FSA. It provides safe savings, affordable loans and budgeting facilities to people who live or work in the BH postcode area. Partially funded by the Big Lottery Fund and Esmee Fairbairn Trust, and supported by local councils and housing associations, the Credit Union aims to promote good financial literacy for all ages, prevent high cost debt and encourage members to save regularly for a project or a rainy day.
Vicki Tongeman, Outreach and Development Worker for Coastal Credit Union said "We have set up a competition for the children to emphasise our aims of encouraging young people to get into the savings habit, so they are less likely to find themselves in a debt trap in the future. Encouraging them to make a money box out of recycled materials will also help develop their creativity, and is in line with our ethical values."
The Credit Union Service Point is open in Parkstone between 11am and 1pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at the rear of the Co-op. Prizes will be given separately for the best use of a recycled item, and for the most imaginative design.
